The St George and Sutherland Clinical School aims to provide a health and safe work environment for all people who work, study or visit either the St George or Sutherland hospital location for which we manage. 

The school is committed to meeting the requirements of the UNSW Health & Safety policy and implementing the aims and strategies. All UNSW Work Health and Safety Policies, Procedures and Forms are available on the UNSW H&S website.

Health & Safety Committee

The Clinical School H&S Committee consists of the Head of School as Management representative, an elected Chairperson and worker Representatives for various areas.
 
Meetings are held quarterly. If you wish to raise a health or safety matter, please raise the issue with your local H&S Representative (see representative list below) or contact the Chairperson or the Secretary.

All Risk Management Forms and Safe Work Procedures are created and stored in Safesys.

Training

Information for New staff

Any person working at the St George and Sutherland Clinical School must be inducted into the school and laboratory Policy and Procedures by their supervisor or delegate and complete health and safety training relevant to the type of work they will be doing.

This applies to volunteers, visiting workers, contractors, students and staff. The level of training required will depend on the type of work, experience and expected length of stay at the university.


All new staff must attend:

  • Work Health & Safety Awareness Online (casual staff working less than 7 hours per week are exempt)
  • Ergonomics Online

New Laboratory staff must attend additional training:

  • Laboratory safety awareness
  • And any other courses associated with your work. (eg Bio-safety, Radiation, Animal Handling, Hazardous Substances, Gene Technology)

To enrol in training courses you need to login to myUNSW.

New staff members are automatically enrolled in to the Online Courses.


Supervisor Training

Anyone who supervises staff or students (e.g. honours, ILP, post-grad students) must attend H&S for Supervisors training.

There are 2 courses available, one for lab-based supervisors (3hrs) and another for non-lab based supervisors (1.5hrs).

Enrol through myUNSW.for dates for the next training session.


Emergency Training

The Emergency Management Unit (EMU) provides emergency training courses.

All staff at St George and Sutherland hospital must attend the hospitals Fire Training.
