St George Hospital Students

Hospital ID Cards

Students from all years are to wear their St George's ID Badge at all times when on the St George hospital premises.
Application forms to obtain the Hospital ID Cards can be obtained from the St George Clinical Teaching Unit.


Access card

Phase 2 and Phase 3 students allocated to St George Hospital can request an access card which allows them access to the Students’ Common Room and the main entrance of the Research and Education Centre, 4 – 10 Short Street, Kogarah NSW 2217.

Access cards must be returned to the Clinical Teaching Unit towards the end of the academic year. For detailed information about the process please refer to the policy


Hospital Registration

At the start of each teaching period for certain courses (please refer below for the relevant courses), students are required to do hospital registration as part of the ClinConnect requirement. To do the hospital registration, please present yourself at the Clinical Teaching Unit with your UNSW Student ID card.

Below are the relevant courses for which students must do their Hospital Registration:

Phase 1 – All courses

Phase 2 – Adult Health 1, Adult Health 2, Oncology and Palliative Care, and Aged Care and Rehabilitation

Phase 3 – Medicine, Surgery, Emergency/Selective, Selective, PRINT, Elective (if it is undertaken at St George Hospital), and Paediatrics


Facilities for students

Computing Facilities

All St George students have access to computers with internet access.  There are computers located in the St George Hospital Library on Level 1, Research & Education Centre or available in the Research Office located on Level 2 in the Clinical Sciences W.R. Pitney Building.  Printing facilities are available in the library with conditions and limitations. 

For use of the computing room in the Research Office of the Clinical School please refer to the Research Office Policy.

Library Facilities

St George Library Service is located on Level 1 of the Research and Education Centre. Photocopying is available for students at 10c a copy, after purchasing a copy card. For further information contact the library on: 9113 3077/3074.

Student Common Room

The student common room is located on the Ground Floor of the Research & Education Centre, 4, South Street, Kogarah.

The room is equipped with a fridge and a kitchenette as well as a lounge and TV.  A common bathroom with a shower is also available in the lockers room adjacent to the students’ common room.  All students are responsible to keep the room tidy at all times.

Lockers

Lockers are located in the locker room just adjacent to the student common room.  Lockers are available to all student assigned to St George Hospital.  Please contact St George Clinical Teaching Unit Student Office for more information on how to obtain a locker key.

Keys must be returned to the Clinical Teaching Unit Student Office at the end of students’ allocation to St George Hospital.

Pagers

Pagers may be requested and available on a case by case basis. For more information, please contact Clinical Teaching Unit Student Office.

Car Parking

Parking is not available for students at the St George Hospital. Students can request a letter from the Clinical Teaching Unit to assist in the purchase of a 5-day parking pass.


How to Get to St George Hospital

Public Transport

St George Hospital is within walking distance from the Kogarah train station. Please refer to the map.

A number of buses also service the route connecting Kogarah train station to the hospital. For more information on bus routes, please visit: http://www.transportnsw.info/.

Car

St George Hospital is located in Kogarah, a suburb in Southern Sydney about 14 kilometres south of the Sydney Central Business District.

A limited number of free parking is available on surrounding streets near the hospital. However availability is extremely limited especially during business hours.
