The UNSW School of Public Health and Community Medicine Health Workforce Programs are a new and exciting addition to the education and learning profile of the School. The programs bring together existing elements in curriculum, with a range of new offerings aimed at developing health professionals, staff, managers, policy makers and researchers at every stage and level of their career and across all types of health systems and services.

The UNSW Health Workforce Programs help practitioners and managers to identify and address the current concerns of healthcare services, wherever they are located. The programs are conducted by staff and conjoints of UNSW Medicine, all of whom have extensive experience in health services delivery, public health and management. The School is also the home of the Human Resources for Health Knowledge Hub, which has been funded by AusAid specifically to address the issues of health services delivery within resource constrained environments.

Practitioner up-skilling

Our Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma (both available in the Health Management, Public Health and International Public Health programs) and Summer School courses offer an entry point for individuals who are interested in developing their skills around specific issues or topics, including those who only have a short period of time in which to develop their skills, or for people who are just returning to study.

Early to mid career professionals

For early to mid-career professionals seeking a career-defining qualification, the Health Workforce Program offers a range of Masters degrees. These degrees are at the core of our curriculum and have gained local and international reputations for their relevance to work practice and the strong emphasis on adult education approaches to learning. The programs include the Master of Public Health, Master of International Public Health, and Master of Health Management, as well as one of the STGCS’s latest and most popular offerings – the dual degrees.

Future health leaders

At UNSW we are committed to developing and supporting the health leaders of the future, and to developing current leaders for the future, that is professionals who are able to lead health systems in complex, resource constrained and often turbulent times. Our Future Health Leaders program is for employers who wish to extend and train their leaders to the next level through a Professional Doctorate while they work full-time. We have extensive experience, expertise and innovative methods in work-based training, and a tried and tested model that can be applied to many different work places. We can negotiate with employers to train cohorts or individuals, but the program must be initiated and supported by the employer.

Senior health executives

We offer executive education in advanced health management and leadership designed specifically for busy, senior health care executives. We bring together our Senior Faculty with health leaders who have to deal with the ‘wicked problems’ that lie at the heart of many of the difficulties facing healthcare services today. These courses are intended to challenge current practice and enhanced leadership skills. Executive education brings the benefit of our international reputation in health management to senior health leaders. This reflects our commitment to innovative approaches to workplace learning and development, and are grounded in our work in translational research, transdisciplinary practice and implementation science. Tailored executive education is also available to organisations.
