Research

The School has an excellent record in attracting nationally and internationally competitive grant funding from National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC), National Heart Foundation (NHF), US Department of Defense, Ramaciotti Foundation and many other funding bodies.

The St George Hospital Clinical School is on the St George Hospital campus, located fifteen kilometres from the Central Business District of Sydney. St George Hospital is a six hundred bed principal teaching hospital of the University and services a local community of over a quarter of a million people.

The St George Clinical School consists of over 200 staff comprising 15 academics / researchers, 180 visitors / conjoints and 10 general staff. Many staff participate in the supervision of postgraduate research students. A large number of the approximately forty students currently enrolled in postgraduate courses and research programs at the School are from overseas. Many students have been awarded scholarships to help support their studies.

Teaching staff and research supervisors have outstanding international reputations in their fields. They are much sought after as speakers at national and international conferences and encourage students to attend and participate at these conferences. Many students choose interdisciplinary areas of research study and the School encourages collaboration with other UNSW departments, schools and faculties, strengthening links and ideas to enhance research projects.
